Day 1. Isafjörður.
Morning flight to Isafjörður, the hub of the Western Fjords and major fishing port. Upon arrival, we will take a sightseeing tour of Isafjörður where we'll visit the Maritime Museum. We continue to Bolungarvik, to visit Ósvör, the fishing outpost museum. In the afternoon, we will take a boat tour of approximately half an hour to Vigur island, near Isafjörður.
Thousands of birds, such as eider ducks, puffins, arctic terns and black guillemot inhabit the island of Vigur. Before going back, you can visit the tiny post office, probably the smallest one in Europe and buy postcards. The duration of the Vigur tour is approximately 3-4 hours.
Return to Isafjörður for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2. Jökulfirðir (the Glacier fjords).
We take a boat to Hesteyri, which is the only means of transportation to this remote area. In 1940´s the people of Hesteyri, a village lacking electricity and roads, made a common decision to move out, and by 1952 the place was completely abandoned. On the way, we pass magnificent cliffs teeming with birdlife. The landscape in Jökulfirðir is very impressive, with steep snow-flecked mountains and unspoiled nature. Return to Isafjörður for an afternoon flight to Reykjavik.
This tour can be combined with all of our tours.
