Glaumbær Museum (near Varmahlíð)

Glaumbær Museum is an old turf farm depicting rural life in Iceland in the 18th and 19th centuries. There are also two wooden houses from the 19th century that represents the architectural style that took over after the era of the turf farms. There are plenty of household items and costumes on display showing what life was like in this epoch. In Áskaffi, you can buy traditional icelandic meals as well as coffee and icelandic cakes. The museum is open daily from June 1st until September 10th from 9:00-18:00 and by appointment at other times.

Laufás Turf Farm (near Akureyri)

Laufás turf farm, built in 1865, is one of Iceland's best-preserved turf houses. It now serves as a museum, giving a good idea of what life was like in Iceland from the 17th to the early 20th century. It is furnished with farmhouse tools, furniture, and kitchen utilities.A souvenir shop and a café, serving traditional Icelandic meals are at Laufás. The museum is open daily from 13th of May until 15th of September from 09:00-18:00 and upon request in wintertime.

Sigurgeir´s Bird Museum Lake Myvatn

The bird museum is situated by Lake Myvatn. It is considered the largest private bird collection in Iceland. It contains more than 180 species of stuffed birds and eggs, all the nesting birds in Iceland as well as stray birds and few rare specimens from abroad. A small café serving traditional meals offers a magnificent view over Lake Myvatn.The museum is open daily from 15th May until 10th August from 10:00-19:00 and from 11:00-19:00 until 31st August. Please check opening hours in wintertime as they vary.

Ystafell Transport Museum exhibits a varied collection of cars and also provides information and photographs from Iceland's history of transportation. The museum is open daily from June through September from 10:00-20:00 and upon request in wintertime.

Víðimýrarkirkja (near Varmahlíð)

Víðimýrarkirkja is an old church, built in 1834. The inside features of the church date back to 1616 and the body of the church is made of turf roof and timber walls. This tiny church is an excellent example of the architecture during this period.

Whale Museum Húsavík

The Húsavík Whale Museum provides detailed and interesting information about whales and their habitat. Whale skeletons of several species as well as illustrations, interactive exhibits and facts about whales fill 1,600m2.The museum is open daily from 1st June-31st August from 09:00-19:00 and in May and September from 10:00-17:00. It is opened for groups upon request in wintertime.
