The Reykjanes Peninsula is situated at the southwestern part of Iceland. It is a very active volcanic and geothermal area with lava fields and little vegetation. There are numerous sulphur mud pools and hot springs in the Krýsuvík area and the rugged coastline is a home to thousands of seabirds. The main industry on the peninsula is fisheries and many interesting museums related to seafaring can be found in the area, e.g. The Maritime Museum, The Saltfish Museum and The Reykjanes Regional Folk Museum. There are also lighthouses along the coast.. The Viking ship, Vikingur, a replica of a ship used in the Viking Age can be found in the Viking World Museum and the popular Blue Lagoon is located near the village of Grindavík.
