Eiriksstaðir Viking Farm (close to Búðardalur)

Eiríksstaðir is a replica of a Settlement Farm. It features a living presentation of the Viking culture and the lifestyle during the Age of Settlement. Guides in Viking Age costumes describe the people who lived there. The museum is open daily from 01st June until 1st September from 09:00-18:00.
 

Reykholt Medieval Centre Borgarfjörður

Reykholt is a cultural and medieval centre and a historic site. It was the residence of the saga writer and historian Snorri Sturluson. Snorri wrote the Edda, tails of old Nordic mythology and poetry, Heimskringla, a history of the Norwegian Kings, and most likely Egil's Saga, the story of the viking and poet Egill Skalla-Grimsson. Snorrastofa offers an exhibition and lectures on Snorri Sturluson and is open daily from 1st of May-31st of August and on weekdays during the winter.

The Icelandic Settlement Centre

The Icelandic Settlement Centre is situated in Borgarnes on the west coast of Iceland, the site of Egilsaga, one of the most known settlement sagas. There are two exhibitions on display at the museum, The Settlement of Iceland and The Saga of Egil Skalla-Grímsson.
The Settlement of Iceland exhibition depicts how Iceland was discovered, how the Vikings crossed the open sea and why they left Norway. The Egilssaga exhibition introduces the saga of Egill and his family while settling down in Iceland. The museum is open daily, from 11:00-17:00 from March-October and from 10:00-21:00 from April-September.

The Shark Museum (near Stykkishólmur)

At Bjarnarhöfn, visitors can discover and taste fermented hákarl (shark) and wash it down with a shot of Brennivin (Black Death). The production of shark meat still takes place in Bjarnarhöfn and here visitors can discover the history of shark meat and how and why shark is fermented and processed.
